Copyright and related rights

Copyright protects the creators of original works. Related rights are similar to copyright in the prerogatives they grant. Their purpose is to protect the artistic or financial contribution invested in literary and artistic creation.

In many artistic fields, copyright and related rights play an important role. Both the transfer and exploitation of these rights generate income for the artist. In terms of taxes and social security contributions, this income is treated differently, depending on its amount, the social status of the artist and whether it is transfer or exploitation income.

Income from copyright and related rights cannot be combined indefinitely with unemployment benefits under the artist status. In the first phase of the "Working in the Arts" project, the federal government proposes to double the permitted cumulation with the artist's benefit to EUR 9,821.76 per fiscal year.
